Henry operated as a barber at various Cincinnati addresses during the 1860's. By directory research John Ostendorf determined he was located at 95 Fifth Street in 1865 at the earliest and continued at there until 1867. In the 1860 and 1870 census records Henry Porter is listed as a black male barber born in Tennessee and living respectively in Cincinnati and Xenia making him the first African American to issue a token.
