286 - OH360B-5a R10- NGC MS65 RB 20% Red with some nice toning. T. P. Turpen Grocer & Tobacco, Greenville Ohio 1864. Very rare variety from rare merchant. Currently listed as Unique but this is now the second known. While this 1047 reverse die is generally thought to be a collectors strike there are notable exceptions, the most extreme example is IL692A-13a where we have recorded six circulated examples, some quite heavily worn and / or damaged. We bring this up because the only other example of this variety we are aware of was a holed VF in the Steve Tanenbaum collection. From the Ohio collection, earlier from our December 2019 catalog sale, then raw, where it sold for a very reasonable $375. Incorrectly labeled OH360B-3a on NGC's holder. (500-750)
