Wind Good For 5 Cents.  Long listed under Cincinnati this merchant has now been attributed to Easton Pennsylvania .  Henry Wind was a Hotel Keeper in Northhampton County during the Civil War.  Always a rare merchant bring as much as $1,000 even as a Cincinnati token.  This is just the ninth example I have seen offered of all varieties and likely worth much more as a new rare town. Ninth Street , Philadelphia struck in Copper Nickel with reverse die 1093 engraved and signed by Robert Lovett.  Only recognized as a Civil War token in the last 30 years.  The fourth rarest Pennsylvania merchant after Schwartz, Clark & Co. and Chestnut & Walnut.  Estimated rarity is R8.  Slightly nicer than the example in my December 2006 sale that realized $1,000. 535  P      TN180A-2b        R7   VF           Slightly porous.  N. O. Underwood, Dedham Tennessee .  Very scarce town and state, much nicer than the porous and somewhat encrusted VF that realized $660 in my October 2001 sale. (1,000-1,500)

536  P      TN430B-4a         R8   EF           Chamberlain Bros. 1 Glass Soda Water.  Formerly listed as Cincinnati Ohio OH165V-4a, recent research has shown this merchant was actually from Knoxville Tennessee .  Very rare merchant and worth $1,000-1,500 even as a Cincinnati Merchant.  Now likely worth twice as much or more as a rare Tennessee town. (2,000-3,000)

537  P      TN600B-10bc     R6   EF           Elliott, Vinson & Co., Memphis Tennessee counterstamped 25 on the obverse and struck in Brass.  Despite the rarity rating this is the only example I have seen offered.  An AU+ example of -10b also rated R6 brought $1,050 in my December 2005 sale.  Ex. 539  P      TN600E-8b         R9   MS63      20% Bright.  Steamer Lancaster No. 4.  This ship had a short but interesting life, launched in January 1861 for the Cincinnati - New Richmond trade.  It was later used in April 1862 to ferry wounded soldiers from the battle of Pittsburg Tennessee .  Beginning in June 1864 it ran troops and supplies from New Orleans to Vicksburg and in August came under attach near Natchez Mississippi .  It snagged and sunk in just ten feet of water south of Portland Missouri on November 18, 1864 . Probably destined to be listed under Cincinnati as the location of David Gibson & Co. its owner and original base of operations.  The  first example of this variety I have seen offered, an MS63 of the more common -10a variety brought $1,375 in my December 2008 auction.  From the Henry South collection from Ken Trobaugh May 1970.  In a NGC holder graded MS63 BN. (1,500-2,000)

540  P      TN690B-3a         R9   MS60      Trace Red and well struck but planchet is slightly rough in spots as struck, still attractive.  Harris & Pearl, Nashville Tennessee with Good For 25 Cents Payable In Bills reverse struck in Copper.  Rare state, rare town and very rare merchant, one of just five I have recorded from all varieties.  A dark VF with scratches of the unlisted -7b variety brought $3,850 in my July 2007 sale.  Ex. 541  P      TN690D-9b        R9   MS62      McKay & Lapsley, Nashville .  Very rare town and merchant, just the fifth example on all varieties of this merchant I have seen offered.  Rare 500 denomination reverse die 1405 which is signed McKay faintly to the right of the last 0.  A retoned AU+ example of the R8 -9a variety sold for $3,190 in my June 2005 sale.
